Surfin Fire Oceanside, originally established in 1999, has a rich history rooted in family and community. Founded by Jon Peterson, a veteran firefighter and passionate surfer, the school was born out of a desire to share the joy of surfing with others. Today, Surfin Fire Oceanside is a local, women-owned business, led by Jon's daughter, Kyla Peterson.
How Surfin Fire Came to Be
Jon Peterson's love for surfing and commitment to safety were the driving forces behind Surfin Fire. Initially created as a surf camp for friends and family, the positive experiences led to the formal establishment of the surf school. Jon's background in public safety and extensive experience in the water has been integral to the school's philosophy, focusing on teaching the fundamentals of surfing while emphasizing safety.
About the Owner
Kyla Peterson, having grown up in Oceanside, brings a deep connection to the local community and the ocean. She is dedicated to continuing her father's legacy, ensuring that the core values of Surfin Fire are upheld. Kyla's commitment to the business is evident in her hands-on approach, pouring her heart and soul into maintaining and enhancing the surf school. Her leadership reflects a strong local presence, with a focus on fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all who come to learn and enjoy the sport.

The team at Surfin Fire Oceanside is a group of highly skilled and passionate individuals.
